What's coming up...

Transformation Team Meetings

YOU'RE INVITED for a series of planning meetings for two important THRIVE in the 05 working groups this fall! Choose a focus or come to them all:

People & Education: Strengthen education, health and human services. Come discuss community issues, opportunities, and resources for early childhood development, education and youth development, adult education and job readiness, services for seniors, health and wellness, arts and culture, and safety.
Housing & Neighborhoods: Transform the “built environment.” Come discuss opportunities for mixed-income & affordable housing development, home ownership, historic preservation & sense of place, transportation & mobility, parks & recreation, and economic development.

We encourage you to invite residents and additional partner organizations to join us in this effort. Refreshments will be provided, and we will have activities for children and youth.

Calling All Volunteers!

Looking for an opportunity to volunteer for THRIVE in the 05? Want to gain or practice your research skills? Join us in an effort to survey households in the THRIVE in the 05 community! Must be 18 or older to survey. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed.

Huge THANK YOU to the Ward 3 Council Office for coordinating the September clean up in Balboa and Coronado Heights. Our volunteers and partners at Tucson Clean & Beautiful, Graffiti Protective Coating and Parks & Recreation helped us fill up two roll-offs, clean up the streets and build new relationships!

Residents from Balboa Heights, Coronado Heights, and Ocotillo Oracle Neighborhoods are invited to a follow-up Community Conversation to discuss your vision for your neighborhood with Thrive in the 05 staff. Join us on Tuesday, October 29 at 6:00 pm at the Marty Birdman Center. RSVP

THRIVE in the 05 National Night Out

We had a great turnout for National Night Out this year and so much fun! If you missed it, save the first Tuesday in October next year on your calendar now!

"Fun was had by all. These types of fun, family-friendly and multi-generational events are so important to strengthening a community. This event is only possible because of a number of volunteers comprised of people who live and work in the surrounding area. A few individuals and organizations who deserve some special recognition include: Tucson Parks and Recreation, Gospel Rescue Mission, ASU School of Social Work, Tucson Police Department, Pima Community College, Friends of the Marty Birdman Center, Tucson Fire Department, Tucson Fraternal Order of Police, Monica Parker and Mario Valencia. Pima Community College brings innovative Workforce & Economic Development solutions and opportunities to the Thrive in the 05 area through outreach, education and training opportunities for local businesses and residents in the area.

Wait. What is THRIVE in the 05?

Building on over a decade of work on projects like the Oracle Area Revitalization Plan (OARP), The Oracle Project (TOP), and the Oracle Area Task Force, three current initiatives are teaming up to build community and invest resources in this area. Together, these projects are called THRIVE in the 05!

Community-Based Crime Reduction is a comprehensive public safety initiative which seeks to work with the community to identify and address drivers of crime to help build sustainable communities of opportunity. Grant funded from the US Department of Justice (DOJ) through the Tucson based ASU School of Social Work.
Choice Neighborhoods leverages significant public and private dollars to support locally driven strategies that address struggling neighborhoods with distressed public or HUD-assisted housing through a comprehensive approach to neighborhood transformation. Grant funded from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the City of Tucson's Housing and Community Development Department (HCD).
Pima Community College in partnership with City of Tucson's Economic Initiatives Office is working to connect local residents and businesses to job training, business incentives, and resources. This collaboration on economic and workforce development inclusion arose through the 2018 Daniel Rose Fellowship and Oracle Area Task Force.
