THRIVE in the 05! Spring Festival at Old Pascua

Tucson, AZ  – “THRIVE in the 05” is a partnership led by the ASU Tucson School of Social Work and the City of Tucson’s Housing and Community Development Department. It is a community-driven initiative, funded by U.S. Department of Justice & U.S. Housing & Urban Development to create opportunities to reinvent housing, education, safety, health, and well-being across neighborhoods in the 85705 zip code, with a focus on the Miracle Mile/Oracle Road area. “THRIVE in the 05” works to engage neighborhoods, build capacity and cross-sector partnerships for comprehensive community transformation.

There will be a Spring Festival, Resource Fair, and Mother’s Day Celebration at the Richey Resource Center in the Old Pascua community (2209 N. 15th Ave) on Saturday, May 11 from 9:00am-12:00pm, which will be open to the public. Food will be provided, and entertainment includes a DJ, live music from Los Hermanos Cuatro, a bounce house for kids, flower making stations, relay races, and other art and recreational activities for kids hosted by Yaqui Artisans and other community partners. Pima County Public Library will be providing their Bookbike; Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports will be doing wheelchair basketball and demonstrations, Arts for All will be hosting Mother’s Day crafts for kids, PSE Archery will be doing demonstrations, the Tucson Police Department will be hosting activities through the You Can, Too program, the K-9 unit and motorcycles, other partners sponsoring tables and activities include KIDCO, Friends of Marty Birdman Center, ASU School of Social Work, the Planning Center, Chicanos Por La Causa, Habitat for Humanity, Pima County Health Department, Pima Council on Aging, Pima County, Pima Community College, Sonora Environmental Research Institute, Tucson Electric Power, Tucson Urban League, Tucson Water, Poster Frost Mirto, Pima County Community Action Agency, and more!

At 10am, San Ignacio Yaqui Councilman Francisco Valencia, City of Tucson Mayor Rothschild, and City of Tucson Ward 3 Council Member Durham will provide a blessing of the mural and a special welcome for the community event.

All are welcome to stop by and stick around for raffle prizes. Proceeds raised from the Butterfly Effect Mural project will go to the San Ignacio Yaqui Council 501(c)3.
